How to Buy Inexpensive Skis without Sacrificing Quality

Buying skis can be an expensive proposition. But for people who love to ski, buying is really the only way to go. Renting just adds up over time, and you never really get anything for it. But how can you buy skis on a limited budget? Buying skis on top of staying at a lodge and getting time on the slopes can be too much to afford pretty easily. Good news: there are several ways to get inexpensive skis. The trouble is making sure those skis haven’t sacrificed any quality to reach that low price.

A lot of people will suggest buying skis that were used by rental places. They probably figure that ski resorts would only buy the best quality skis, in order to avoid getting sued by someone who was injured by a faulty ski. But this option is far from ideal. Rental skis have been worn down so much that the resort is not willing to use them anymore – what does that tell you about their quality? These might – and only might – be the cheapest option, but they’re not even worth that.

That’s not to say that you can’t buy used skis. Sometimes, people will buy skis, thinking that they’ll be skiing all the time, and then only get to use them once or twice before they move away or have other distracting business or personal matters. If you can find used skis that are definitely in good condition, that can be a great option for inexpensive skis.

Some companies, too, have bargain sales on skis. Sometimes these are older models or styles that are no longer in fashion. Only very rarely are these bargain skis very low quality, and that can usually be determined with a little research on review sites.

Don’t let the expense of buying skis keep you off the slopes. Find yourself an inexpensive pair of skis, ideally from an individual or in a bargain sale, and get back to the slalom.
